Augmented City / Digital creative Citizenship
about the project

AC/DC - Augmented City / Digital creative Citizenship.
Artistic residence for Transformer Artwork
#08 AC/DC residency at Kitchen Budapest (3 Months)

Artists in residence are working on the AC/DC project at Kitchen Budapest
In order to contribute to the development of the transformer artwork, Kitchen Budapest (KiBu) crew created two Augmented Reality installations (Time passing by, Floating islands), and did a research on AR and VR, aiming to experience this technology and gain knowledge for the mentorship of the upcoming residents.By launching an international open call we invited applicants to present an implementable artistic idea with strong social focus based on the intersectional field of Augmented Reality and City space. By developing a 3D visual identity and communicating on several channels (video teasers, facebook ads, landing page, newsletters, posters, etc.) we put significant efforts to raise visibility and disseminate the key values of the project. Regarding the complexity of the projects, we organised a 3 month long residency where all the tools, devices, financial support, knowledge and mentorship was given to enable the realization of the supported project.
In a 2 rounded selection process we selected 2 projects out of more than 30. We announced them in an public AC/DC kickoff event organized with the aim to inspire the birth of new art forms and solutions within the intersectional field of Augmented City - Digital City. Invited expert speakers Sander Veenhof (NL, ManifestAR) and Lilia Haralampieva (IT, Bepart) were both key members of using AR Art in city space. Our experts, Anna Wessely, Attila Nemes involved them in a roundtable discussion. Our AR installations were presented as well. The selected projects were: Audiovisual Map by the Hungarian artist Gábor Pribék, and Unfolding Budapest by Jonathan Ravasz and Filip Ruisl from Slovakia. We found an advantage that some of the residents came from abroad, to maintain trans-national circulation of artists. Both of the realized projects are using digital technologies - AR and also VR - as a change for life and city environment, to encourage new ways of communication of cultural values.
